I don't have an ex-husband, he is ours, frightning huh? We have been married 22 years, our children. 2 sons we're raised in a very small town 920 people) our eldest, just moved back home with his wife of 1 year. Our youngest, has a 14 year old girlfriend he is having sex with, he is 18/12. We have told him over and over that, there are laws about dating girls under 17 in Georgia, in fact we have told him for the last 12 months. He isn't listening. What to do.

My son has totally eliminated me from his life since he has been married. The girl hates me. After their first child was born - she said that I was only interested in the baby and not in him. He has gone along with it. I don't even know what the baby looks like. I'm so broken hearted - I miss my son so much - and I always thought he loved me. I raised him alone - and I would have done anything for them as a couple. She is very spoiled - only wants her family and he has just gone along with it. I've tried everything - they won't accept calls, letters - nothing. I feel like I've lost everything.

My son is the same way. I also cannot have a relationship with my new grandchild. This is one of the most painful things I have ever felt.

I too am experiencing the same thing. However, I can see my son and grandchildren a little if I jump through their hoops. I understand. I love my son too and feel really sad that I am not able to keep my grandchildren.

Dear Donna, You are not alone in your sadness. When my son turned 16, he quickly turned against me. I, too was a single parent and very close to my son. It has been almost 7 years now and I have slowly come to accept that the first 16 years with him are the only ones I will ever know. He travels and I never know where he is or if he is well. So I carry him in my heart. I will remember you in my prayers. As long as you know he is happy and well - that is a plus. May each new day bring you new hope and may there be reconsiliation between your son, his family, and yourself.

I too am heartbroken and confused. I raised my son alone and we were always so happy and close until he turned 14 and we were evicted from our home due to the landlord needing the place for his daughter. We had to move in with my mom. That was a blessing and a curse. She was helping by letting us live there and pay little rent. but, she undermined my authority and disrespected me and fought with me in front of my son repeatedly. something he had never witnessed in his life. I was degraded in his eyes. he began to use pot and mushrooms to escape the fighting and the tension of living with two fighting women. i felt so helpless, my mom would dominate the house and when i would try to deal with my son, she would interfere. we would end up screaming at the top of our lungs so many abusive words. my son descended into madness. he ended up over dosing on mushrooms and was hospitalized for 24 hrs. he has never forgiven me for that and for lying to him when he ran away and a woman called his cell and lied saying she had a job for him but really didnt'. she did it to trick him into calling so we would know he was ok and alive. later after weeks had passed, he was working on his resume and i helped him. i was afraid to tell him the truth for fear of his temper so i stayed quiet, hoping that when he went there, she would simply tell him the position was filled. instead she humilated him and told him she had lied to trick him into calling. she said it in front of two other young people. he was mortified and when he got back home he was destroyed. he was so hurt. finally after 3 yrs of living with my mom and son in a two bedroom, last july 2004, we moved into our 1 bedroom condo. it was all i could afford. but the damage was done. he hates me. he cant stand the sound of my voice. he verbally abuses me or simply gives me the silent treatment. the condo is a place of sadness and isolation. no conversation, only fighting, no laughing, only hate filled words. and leaving in the middle of the night for hours till the tempers subside. i have lost my baby. i am a failure in his eyes. i am lost.

You are not alone. My son hates me too. His father and I broke up over a year ago. He is nineteen and still lives with his dad and girlfriend. He has treated me like garbage for the last year and I cant seem to have any relationship with him at all. I miss him too so much so I know what you are going through

I have lived with this same situation for 15 years. My daughter-in-law hated me from the time they started dating. She is a controlling witch and my son has no guts. I helped them through difficult times when their premature baby lived and died, and took care of their older, adopted son for 6 months. Now I have been told to stay out of their lives. I am mourning today, getting rid of all the grandson's clothes, etc., and wish I could just die. I can't believe my son went along with this banishment. I want to die today.

Dear Donna, I know exactly what you are goin thru... I have only 1 son whom is 30 years old now , and he has not talked to me for more than 3 years. I raised him as a single mom also, and I admit that I spoiled him to the point that he believes that I owe him something??? He does not speak to my mother either, whom adores him, and due to his behavior, I kicked him out of my house about a year ago. Donna, during the first year of his behavior, I thought I was going to go crazy, and tried to make him open to me in every possible way, but it did not worked; on the contrary, everytime he turned more and more against me, to the point that I feared a physical agression, and decided to kick him out of the house. I do not like to give advise to anyone, but in my case I came to the conclusion that I had to live him along for my own good and mental sanity. I consider that I may have not been a "perfect mother" but I did my best. I worked very hard to support him while he was getting an education, and he was never abused and never went hungry or homeless while he was under my custody. Looking at your situation from afar, please do yourself a favor; do not hurt yourself anymore trying to reach him or get him close to you, only to be dissapointed when you get his rejection. Live him along, and let life be the one to teach him a lesson, remember that now he has a child of his own and what goes around comes around!
