I Have a 14 month old little boy... I am 19... and he has his fathers last name... his father has nothing to do with him.. and has an awful background history with the law.. I have been told many differnt things that in order to get his last name changed I have to write a statement in the newspaper and it has to be petitioned.. BUT i know for a fact that his father won't sign his rights over because he wants to be a butthole about it... he doesnt even pay child support and the guy i am with now and have been with... wants to adopt him... WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO???????? please email me or post some replys... thank you!

I'm not a legal person but I do know a lot about working with custody and cooperation. If you are only 19 think very hard about your current relationship and be certain it is solid and longterm. Why the rush to have the man you are with adopt? If the current biological father does not have anything to do with your son and goes for a year without any contact you may be able to calim abandonment and then petition the court for a new adoptive father. Take your time -discuss a parenting plan and how you and your current man can create a loving and nurturing enviroment for your child. If he truly loves you and your child - he will wait until the time is right. Most men who are willing to love, claim and raise another mans child as their own usually have a special gift. Blessings for a productive and joyful future. Helpful mom in Atlanta.

You must work the system. Force the child support and give in to trade off the adoption. please be sure this is the right guy before you change his identity
